Comedians Stephen Lynch, Charlie Murphy to perform at Elliott Hall of Music

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Stand-up comedians Stephen Lynch and Charlie Murphy will perform a "Last Blast: A Double Shot of Comedy" show at 8 p.m. April 25 in Purdue University's Elliott Hall of Music.

Purdue's Student Concert Committee is presenting the performance.

Lynch is a stand-up comedian, musician and Tony Award-nominated actor who is known for his distinctive song parodies and disturbing lyrics, said Laura Clavio, Purdue Convocations assistant director and Student Concert Committee adviser.

Lynch has released one studio album titled "A Little Bit Special" and two live albums -"Superhero" and "The Craig Machine." In 2004, Lynch released his first live DVD, "Live at The El Rey," which was recorded live at The El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles. It was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America in March 2006 for sales in excess of 50,000 copies. He has appeared in two "Comedy Central Presents" specials and has performed at the Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal.

In 2006, Lynch completed an eight-month run starring in the Broadway musical "The Wedding Singer," for which he received a Tony Award nomination for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical, A Drama League Award nomination for Distinguished Performance and a Drama Desk Award nomination for Outstanding Actor in a Musical.

Murphy has been doing stand-up routines for 17 years, but he is best known for his work on the Emmy-nominated "Chappelle's Show," for which he created the feature "Charlie Murphy's True Hollywood Stories."

"Murphy possesses a distinctive voice and an extraordinary talent for verbal illustration, and his 'True Hollywood Stories' have been credited as a significant contributor to the continued success of 'Chappelle's Show,'" Clavio said.

Murphy's features film credits include "King's Ransom," "Roll Bounce," Chris Rock's hip-hop parody "CB4," Spike Lee's "Jungle Fever" and "Mo' Betta Blues," Ben Stiller's "Night at the Museum," Queen Latifah's "A Perfect Christmas," and Eddie Murphy's "Harlem Nights" and "Vampire in Brooklyn," for which Charlie Murphy also was credited as a writer. Murphy's latest writing endeavor, "Norbit," opened at No. 1 at the box office.

In 2004, Murphy embarked upon a sold-out national comedy tour featuring "Chappelle's Show" cast members Donnell Rawlings and Bill Burr. In 2005 his stand-up career continued to grow with a sold-out follow up tour, "Charlie Murphy and Friends" as well as a co-headlining tour with Mike Epps. More recently, Murphy co-headlined on the 20-city "Maxim/Bud Light Real Men of Comedy Tour" with Joe Rogan and John Heffron.

Tickets for "Last Blast: A Double Shot of Comedy" are $32 for the general public and $27 for Purdue and Ivy Tech students and children under age 19; prices include a facilities fee. There is a language advisory.

Tickets go on sale to Purdue and Ivy Tech Lafayette students, and Purdue faculty and staff with a current ID at 10 a.m. March 20 at the Elliott Hall of Music and Stewart Center box offices at (765) 494-3933.
