Business, political and academic leaders in the Midwest will meet in April in Indianapolis to air their concerns about federal spending for research and development. And Washington is coming to listen.
On Tuesday, April 1, Purdue University will co-host a one-day conference to assess the future of R&D funding in the United States. The conference, to be held at the Adam's Mark Hotel, 2544 Executive Drive, Indianapolis, is co-sponsored by the Washington-based Council on Competitiveness. It is called "A Midwest Summit on the Future of American Innovation."
The event will bring together corporate executives, university leaders, researchers, members of Congress and senior government officials to chart a research and development course for the next century and to discuss the need for more effective collaboration between the private and public sectors.
The two dozen speakers at the meeting will include Indiana Gov. Frank O'Bannon; Henry Kelly, acting associate director, White House Office of Science and Technology Policy: John McTague, vice president of technical affairs, Ford Motor Co.; and Purdue University President Steven C. Beering.
