Purdue Board of Trustees re-elect officers

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue University Board of Trustees today (Friday, 7/6) re-elected Indianapolis businessman J. Timothy McGinley to a two-year term as board chairman and W. Wayne Townsend, a former state legislator and farmer from Hartford City, Ind., as vice chairman.

Both trustees joined the board in 1989 and were first elected officers in 1993.

J.Timothy McGinley

McGinley is the managing partner and principal owner of House Investments, a real estate investment company. He received a Purdue degree in chemical engineering in 1963 and a master's degree in business administration from Harvard University in 1965. McGinley earned All-Big Ten honors as a member of the Boilermaker basketball team and was recognized for academic achievement. In 2000, he was inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame.

W.Wayne Townsend

Townsend is a hog producer who farms 2,200 acres in Blackford and Grant counties. He is a 1951 graduate of Purdue's School of Agriculture. He served in the Indiana House of Representatives in 1959-61 and 1963-66 and in the Indiana Senate from 1971-87. He was the Democrats' 1984 nominee for governor.

The trustees also re-elected the following officers:

• Treasurer – Kenneth P. Burns, Purdue executive vice president and treasurer.

• Secretary – Doris A. Pearson.

• Assistant treasurer – James S. Almond, Purdue vice president for business services and assistant treasurer.

• Assistant secretary – Roseanna Behringer.

• Legal counsel – Anthony S. Benton, partner in Stuart & Branigin, Lafayette.

• Assistant legal counsel – Tom Parent, partner in Stuart & Branigin.
