Agronomy department recognizes outstanding students

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Five Purdue University agronomy students have earned scholarships for their achievements.

Three students received the 2002 J. Fielding Reed Potash and Phosphate Institute Fellowship Award that recognizes graduate students in soil and plant sciences. Six fellowships are given and this is the first year the award was presented to three students at the same university. Each student receives $2,500 and a certificate. The Purdue fellowship recipients are Ann Kline of Hudson, Ind., William Kess Berg of Wapakoneta, Ohio, and Amy Berg of Huntington, Ind.

Two students in the Department of Agronomy accepted the M. O. Pence Award that honors an undergraduate and a graduate student and encourages future leadership in Extension education and applied agronomic work. This year's recipients are Corey Green, a junior from Worthington, Ind., and Mercedes Murua, a graduate student from Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The undergraduate student receives a $1,500 scholarship and the graduate recipient receives a $3,500 scholarship. Both students' names are placed on a departmental plaque in Lilly Hall of Sciences.
