Appointments and promotions

— Erin Pennington has been selected as the College of Technology's director of alumni and donor relations. Pennington was formerly the business travel sales manager for Omni Hotels in Indianapolis. She received a bachelor's degree in communications from Hanover College in 2002.

— Renee Thomas, director of the Black Cultural Center, was awarded the Dreamer Award, which is sponsored by the Office of the Vice President for Human Relations. Ashley Hornberger, a junior in College of Liberal Arts from Fairland, Ind., also won the award, which recognizes members of the university community for service that brings the university closer to fulfilling the dream of Martin Luther King Jr. They were recognized Jan. 15 during the university's program to honor King.

Alumni honors

— Tobias Moskowitz, who received his bachelor's and master's degrees from Krannert School of Management in 1993 and 1994, respectively, has received the 2007 Fischer Black Prize from the American Finance Association. The award honors the top finance scholar under age 40. Moskowitz is a professor of finance at the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business. Moskowitz, who also is a Neubauer Family Faculty Fellow at Chicago Graduate School of Business, was honored for his "ingenious and careful use of newly available data to address fundamental questions in finance," according to a statement from the American Finance Association. He teaches MBA courses in empirical asset pricing and investments.

Student honors

— Dawn Graham, a doctoral candidate in counseling psychology, has won the Harold Josephson Award of the Association of International Education Administrators. Graham won the award for her study titled "Competence, Problem Solving and Travel: A Developmental Approach," which is a two-year longitudinal study regarding learning by American study-abroad participants. She presented the first stage of her study at the international conference of NAFSA: The Association of International Educators in Montreal in May 2006 and will present the second stage at the May 2007 NAFSA conference in Minneapolis. The Josephson Award is given each year to recognize emerging leaders in the field of international education through students' graduate study and research.
