'Junie B. Jones' tickets sell out for show at Loeb Playhouse

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — "Junie B. Jones," a musical based on the best-selling children's books by Barbara Park, will be performed at 3 p.m. Sunday (Nov. 19) at Purdue University's Loeb Playhouse.

The performance, which is sold out, is presented by Purdue Convocations.

"Junie B. Jones" is by Marcy Heisler and Zina Goldrich ("Dear Edwina" and "Taylor the Latte Boy") is based on four volumes of Park's "Junie B. Jones" series of books. The fast-paced production follows the precocious character Junie B. Jones as she experiences various typical first grade situations: new friends, new glasses, sugar cookies and the annual kickball tournament. The 60-minute musical is recommenced for audiences age 5 and up.

After a brief New York City-area tour in spring 2004, "Junie B. Jones" premiered off-Broadway at the Lucille Lortel Theatre in July 2004, and it is now one of TheatreworksUSA's most popular productions. "Junie B. Jones" began its national tour in fall 2004 and a second national company began touring in spring 2005.

The production is staged by Theatreworks USA, a children's theater company with a mission to provide young audiences with their first taste of the performing arts as well as give young actors, writers, directors and designers an early opportunity to work in the field. It is America's largest and most prolific professional not-for-profit theater company for young people and family audiences. Since 1961, TheatreworksUSA has reached more than 72 million people in 49 states and Canada and now performs for about 4 million people annually. Every year, the company tours approximately 16 shows from its ever-growing repertoire of 115 plays and musicals.

In addition to the sold-out performance, "Junie B. Jones" will be presented to two sold-out matinees on Monday (Nov. 20). These matinees are specifically for elementary school groups that include students from seven different school corporations.

While this performance is sold out, tickets for other Purdue Convocations performances are available at the Elliott Hall and Stewart Center box offices at (765) 494-3933 or (800) 914-SHOW. Tickets also are available through Ticketmaster outlets.

This performance is presented with support from the Purdue Employees Federal Credit Union.
