Purdue Extension director honors leaders of Agriculture Centers

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — David Petritz, director of the Purdue University Cooperative Extension Service, honored directors and superintendents of the Purdue Agricultural Centers with the Director's Award on Tuesday (Oct. 17) during Purdue Extension's annual conference banquet.

The Purdue Agricultural Centers (PAC), managed by director Jerry Fankhauser and assistant director Steve Hawkins, make up a network of eight research centers located across the state. Agricultural Research Programs within Purdue Agriculture provides supervision for the centers.

"The PACs are a tremendous resource for the Purdue staff to conduct research that addresses the needs of the local agricultural sector, but even more so, they provide field laboratories and facilities to bring research-based educational programs to all citizens in their locale," Petritz said.

The award was presented to the directors and eight superintendents, who manage each of the regional centers, for the support they provide to university faculty and staff.

The regional supervisors include: Jeff Boyer, Davis PAC, Farmland, Ind.; Richard Huntrods, Feldun PAC, Bedford, Ind.; Phil Walker, Northeast PAC, Columbia City, Ind.; Jon Leuck, Pinney PAC, Wanatah, Ind.; Don Biehle, Southeast PAC, Butlerville, Ind.; Meb Lang, Southeast PAC, Vincennes, Ind.; Jason Tower, Southern PAC, Dubois, Ind.; and Jay Young, Throckmorton PAC, Lafayette, Ind.

"Without the support and help of these dedicated people, Extension would not be able to fully accomplish its mission," said Extension assistant director Tom Jordan.

The Director's Award is given annually to a non-Extension group or employee that supports the Extension Service and its mission through their efforts. Recipients are chosen by the director.
