Extension names distinguished educator award recipient

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. —The Purdue University Cooperative Extension Service on Tuesday (Oct. 17) honored Craig Williams, an Extension educator from Cass County, with the Paul B. Crooks Distinguished Extension Educator Award.

The award was announced during Purdue Extension's annual conference banquet.

Williams, a community and economic development and agriculture and natural resources educator, places an emphasis on community development in a variety of ways. In the Cass County area, he has been involved with leadership development of minority leaders, facilitation of a Master Gardeners training class and planning the future of the county 4-H fairgrounds. Williams has contributed to the global community through work with Sovbel Agribusiness in the former Soviet Union republic of Belarus to develop a beef production management program.

He is a member of the National Association of County Agriculture Agents (NACAA) and Indiana Extension Educators Association (IEEA). Williams has received several awards from these organizations, including NACAA communications and achievement awards and IEEA senior and Hank Wadsworth County Team awards.

The Crooks Award is a $2,500 cash endowment given to a Purdue Extension educator who has at least 10 years of experience. The award recognizes educators who have shown significant impact in their area of assignment, teamwork and collaboration, and exceptional Extension programming.

The award was named for Paul B. Crooks, who was an Extension educator in Benton, Fountain and Morgan counties. He served as associate director of Purdue Extension from 1962-82. The memorial award was first given in 1985.
