Jischke to speak at Indianapolis Rotary

Martin C. Jischke
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue President Martin C. Jischke will speak about what the university is doing to boost economic development when he addresses the Rotary Club of Indianapolis on Nov. 7.

Jischke will be introduced by Sen. Richard Lugar at approximately 12:30 p.m. during the club's luncheon at the Murat Shrine, 520 N. New Jersey St., in the second-floor Arabian Room. Elaine Bedel, Indianapolis Rotary Club president, said Rotary members are looking forward to learning more about Purdue's legislative appropriation request for the next biennium.

"Whether it's advanced manufacturing, transportation logistics, value-added agriculture or pharmaceuticals, Purdue has a hand in so many initiatives that have a direct impact on the economic future of our state," Bedel said. "We want to know more about these initiatives and other exciting research developments in Purdue's Discovery Park."

Jischke also will speak about how Purdue and Lugar have formed a partnership to promote Indiana's leadership in biofuel development. A brief question-and-answer session will follow his remarks.

Jischke previously addressed the Indianapolis Rotary in 2003.

During future speaking engagements, Jischke will seek input on Purdue's new strategic plan. Visits to other areas around the state include:

• Nov. 16, Valparaiso.

• Dec. 14, Hancock County, including Greenfield.

• Jan. 25, Johnson County, including Franklin and Greenwood.

• Feb. 27, southwest region, including Evansville.

• March 15, Anderson.

Ideas also can be submitted on a new strategic plan Web site.
