FOUND magazine creator to speak at reading series

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Davy Rothbart, creator of FOUND magazine, will speak on Oct. 24 as part of Purdue University's Literary Reading Series.

Rothbart's talk, which is free and open to the public, is at 7:30 p.m. at the Wells Center, 638 North St., Lafayette. The event is sponsored by the Department of English and the Creative Writing Program.

FOUND magazine is a pop culture publication that features mini-stories about found stuff, such as love notes, breakup notes, birthday cards, to-do lists and poetry on napkins, says Daryll Lynne Evans, assistant director of the Creative Writing Program. Evans says Rothbart will share his favorite new finds, and his brother, musician Peter Rothbart, will play new songs based on FOUND items. Audience members also will be encouraged to share their finds.

Davy Rothbart is author of "The Lone Surfer of Montana, Kansas," as well as two books based on the magazine, "FOUND" and "FOUND II: The Best Lost, Tossed and Forgotten Items from Around the World." He is a regular contributor to "This American Life" on National Public Radio.

The Department of English is housed in the College of Liberal Arts.
