Purdue Army ROTC cadets to participate in field exercise

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue University Army ROTC cadets will participate in a fall field training exercise Friday through Sunday (Oct. 13-15) at Camp Atterbury near Edinburgh.

More than 100 cadets will live in the field and train on such tasks as rifle marksmanship, land navigation or orienteering, a field leader's reaction course and a confidence course.

The confidence course challenges the cadets physically and mentally, and the leader's reaction course challenges small-unit leaders to develop a team and lead them through a complex task, said Lt. Col. Dan Carpenter, head of the Army ROTC department and professor of military science and leadership.

Throughout the weekend, third- and fourth-year cadets will plan and lead all the training under the supervision of the Army ROTC staff. One weekend each semester, the cadets conduct a field training exercise to conduct training on complex tasks that cannot take place on campus.
