Hospitality, tourism management offers career fair, speaker seriesWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. The Purdue University hospitality and tourism management department is sponsoring a career day as well as the Darden Series: HTM Executive in the Classroom, beginning Thursday (Sept. 21).Richard Rivera, president and CEO of Rubicon Enterprises, will be the first speaker in the 2006 Darden Series at 10:30 a.m. Thursday (Sept. 21) in the Class of 1950 Lecture Hall, Room 224. The second speaker in the Darden Series will be Deborah Sexton, president of Professional Convention Management Association. She will speak at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 26 in Stewart Center's Loeb Playhouse. Both talks are free and open to the public. HTM Career Day starts at 12:30 p.m. on Sept. 26 in the Purdue Memorial Union Ballrooms. More than 50 companies will be interviewing students for internships and full-time employment. The remaining Darden Series talks, which are all free and open to the public, will take place at 10:30 a.m. in the Class of 1950 Lecture Hall, Room 224. Dates and speakers include: Sept. 28 Paul Fregia, founder of Grandma Maud's Inc. Oct. 5 Wallace B. Doolin, chief executive officer of Buca Inc. Oct. 19 Joseph R. Kane, president of American Hotel and Lodging Association, chairman of Wyndham Hotel Group, and president and CEO of Days Inns Worldwide Inc. Oct. 26 Amy Vaughan, director of the Indiana Office of Tourism Development. Nov. 2 David Kalman, president of Advantage Food Marketing. The Darden Series is a forum that brings industry leaders into the classroom to give students a sense of the industry's current status, its future and what students need to know for success.
