Faculty and staff honors S. Kathleen Salisbury, professor of small animal surgery and assistant dean for academic affairs in the School of Veterinary Medicine, received the Weedon Faculty Recognition Award, which was established with a gift from the family of Robert Weedon, a 1981 Purdue graduate. The Weedon Award honors the faculty member who has contributed the most to the education of the fourth-year veterinary class. The Carl J. Norden Distinguished Teacher Award was given to Kevin Hannon, associate professor of developmental anatomy. Sponsored by Pfizer Inc., the award recognizes the faculty member selected by a vote of the student body for outstanding teaching. The Pfizer Animal Health Award for Research Excellence was given to Chang H. Kim, associate professor of immunology. His studies include research on the roles of chemokines and chemokine receptors in forming immunity against pathogens and cancer cells. Diane Bevier, clinical/professional associate professor of veterinary clinical sciences and board-certified veterinary dermatologist, received the Faculty Award for Excellence in Service in recognition of her distinguished efforts in service activities. The recipient is selected on the basis of a vote by all of the faculty and veterinarians who refer patients to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital. John Christian, associate professor of veterinary clinical pathology and director of the school's Clinical Pathology Laboratory, received the School of Veterinary Medicine Alumni Outstanding Teaching Award at the annual University Honors Convocation. The award represents recognition of outstanding teaching ability by students in the professional degree program.
Student honors Catherine Withey of Indianapolis was the first recipient of the David S. Moore Undergraduate Scholarship, instituted by the Department of Statistics. The scholarship honors Moore, the Shanti S.
