Purdue's Welcome Back Bash to feature free concert

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — A free concert will be among the activities on tap for Purdue students during their first week of classes.

As part of Purdue Student Union Board's Welcome Back Bash, a concert will take place from 9 p.m. to midnight Friday (Aug. 25) on the Purdue Memorial Union front lawn. The show will feature local artists Mollie Grieser, and Moonshine Mason and the Got Rut Gang.

"Mollie Grieser has been singing since she was a child, and her performances range from powerful blues ballads to smooth soul lullabies," said Ben Smith, Purdue Student Union Board director of concerts. "Moonshine Mason and the Rot Gut Gang was formed in March 2004, and their music helps preserve traditional country music. Some of their music includes tunes by Porter Wagoner, Buck Owens, Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash and the Louvin Brothers."

The Welcome Back Bash is an annual event sponsored by Purdue Student Union Board the first Friday night every fall semester. The event also includes the Purdue Glee Club First Nighter at 7:30 p.m. in the Purdue Memorial Union ballrooms. Beginning at 9 p.m., other activities on the Union's front lawn will include a mechanical bull, crafts, a portrait artist and more.

Both concerts are free and open to the public.
