Grant writing workshop to help organizations grow budgets

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Purdue University will offer the annual Beginner's Guide to Grant Writing Workshop Oct. 4 and Nov. 8 at several locations throughout Indiana.

Grant writers of all skill and experience levels are encouraged to attend the workshop, which aims to teach people how to get the most funding possible for their organizations.

"Budgets are tighter," said Aadron Rausch, Purdue Extension specialist. "Organizations rely on grants to sustain projects and grow."

The program, which is sponsored by Purdue Extension, will consist of two eight-hour days with presentations by Purdue experts via teleconference as well as on-site facilitators at each workshop location. The Oct. 4 session will begin at 9:30 a.m. EDT and the Nov. 8 session will convene at 9:30 a.m. EST.

On the first day of the workshop, participants should come with an idea for a grant proposal and by the end of the day they will have an outline and resources necessary to expand the outline into a full proposal.

When they return the second day with a full written proposal, participants will be put into the role of reviewers. Day two also will teach strategies for finding funding and provide an opportunity to polish proposals and send them in for professional review.

"This workshop is very comprehensive," Rausch said. "It demystifies grant writing."

Workshop registration is $150 and due by Sept. 20. Those registering by Sept. 8 will pay a discounted price of $120.

Registration forms and a complete list of videoconference locations are available online. For information regarding the workshop, contact Rausch at (888) 398-4636 or rauschaj@purdue.edu.
