Purdue NotebookJuly 7, 2006 Faculty and staff honorsThe College of Liberal Arts has two new department heads. Professor William Harper has been appointed head of the Department of Health and Kinesiology, and clinical professor Robert Novak will serve as interim head of the Department of Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences. Thomas Templin, former head of health and kinesiology, and Anne Smith, former head of speech, language and hearing sciences, are returning to teaching and research.
Alumni honors Adele Needham, who received a degree from Purdue in elementary education in 1964, recently was awarded the 2006 Sophie Thanos Misner Lifetime Achievement Award from the Friends of Indiana Libraries. The award recognizes a member of a local friends group for superior achievements in working with local members of the Friends of the Library or exemplary commitment to representing the interests of libraries in the community. The six sales she chaired this year averaged 35,000 books each and earned more than $100,000 in sales. Needham is a member of the Tippecanoe County Public Library Friends Advisory Board and is a volunteer at the library.
