Purdue NotebookJune 29, 2006 Appointments and promotions Kyle A. Pendleton has been named assistant dean of students for Greek life. He will oversee all aspects of Greek life at Purdue, including working with all fraternity and sorority chapter student leaders. Pendleton has more than 12 years of experience working with Greek students, most recently serving as the director for the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life at Northwestern University. He received his bachelor's degree from Ohio State University and his master's degree from the University of South Carolina.
Faculty and staff honors Camilla Lawson, Purdue University Student Learning Center manager, was awarded the Dale E. Dowden Award for Outstanding Student Services in Distance Education at a statewide conference June 6. The award, given by the Indiana College Network, recognizes people who contribute to student success in distance learning. Lawson, who has worked in the distance learning field for more than a decade, received a trophy and a cash award for professional development. Lyle Lloyd, a professor of special education audiology and speech sciences at Purdue, recently received an honorary doctorate from the University of Pretoria in South Africa. He was given the honor in recognition of his role in establishing the field of augmentative and alternative communication in South Africa over the past 15 years. He has collaborated with staff and students at the Center for Augmentative and Alternative Communication in South Africa, helping develop educational courses that promote full participation of individuals with little or no functional speech.
