Purdue names director of Women's Resource Office
Pope, who was executive director of the Assault Care Center Extending Shelter and Support in Ames, Iowa, will take office on July 1, said Alysa Christmas Rollock, vice president for human relations. "We selected Katie Pope after a national search," Rollock said. "She brings to Purdue extensive experience working with women's programs and will work independently and in collaboration with other university offices to help meet the needs of all women on campus." Pope's previous experience includes working as educational outreach and event coordinator for the Margaret Sloss Women's Center in Ames, Iowa, interim director of the Ames-ISU YWCA and director of development at Washington University in St. Louis. "It's a broad mission to serve the many different women on a campus such as Purdue, but there's already a strong foundation in place," Pope said. "I'm hoping to develop those networks to create even more support for issues that include providing expanded opportunities for achievement, support and balancing work with family life." She earned a bachelor's degree in English from the University of Dayton in 1996, a master's degree in philanthropic studies from the Indiana University Center on Philanthropy in 1999 and a master's degree in interdisciplinary studies from Iowa State University in 2005. The Office of the Vice President for Human Relations oversees the areas of the Women's Resource Office as well as the Affirmative Action Office and the Diversity Resource Office. The Women's Resource Office is responsible for improving the campus climate for women and developing and implementing programs that address women's issues and gender-related concerns.
