Web portal eases bidding process barriers between buyers and suppliersWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. Axonai Inc., a Purdue Research Park company specializing in connecting buyers and suppliers online, announced today (Friday, June 2) the launch of an Internet portal that makes the parts bidding process more efficient and affordable. The Web site's pilot phase has attracted dozens of companies from more than 10 countries. "Unlike traditional online models where participation in the bidding process is membership-based with hefty fees, Axonai's solution involves a pay-as-you-go approach in which fees are based on downloadable contract specifications," said Cesar Ceneviz, Axonai's president. "Axonai's next-generation request for quote (RFQ) process automatically detects eligible suppliers based on information they've uploaded in the site's directory. That way, buyers aren't constantly bombarded with inappropriate bids, and the bidding process is shortened by an average of 12 days." Once a design engineer uploads a computer-aided design depicting an item the buyer wishes to have produced, Axonai's Buyer Sourcing Assistant helps the buyer determine the most ideal manufacturing process for that particular part and distributes RFQs to previously qualified suppliers. "With our system, the buyer does not have to know in advance the optimal process for manufacturing the part," said Brandon Ezra, Axonai's chairman. "Therefore, cutting-edge processes that are more efficient are not overlooked when the bidding process begins." Once buyers submit their RFQ, they can receive and review the responses online, including information about the supplier's profile and rating as well as comments about the supplier in reference to other jobs. At the opposite end of the supply chain, suppliers use Axonai's online service to specify their capabilities and the kinds of manufacturing jobs they would like to receive. When an RFQ comes their way, they can review at no cost the part's dimensions, tolerances, materials and specifications (including delivery deadlines). They also are able to view how many RFQs the buyer has previously posted as well as the buyer's ratings from previous jobs. Once the supplier is satisfied that it has met eligibility requirements, the supplier can pay a fee to view the buyer's contact information in anticipation of bidding on the job. The Axonai system also includes enhanced project management features that make it simple for buyers and suppliers to work together during the design, production and inspection phases. To further enhance its ability to connect job requirements with supplier capabilities, Axonai also is developing relationships with other Purdue Research Park information technology companies, such as Imaginestics LLC, a leader in shape-based search technology.
