Purdue seeks nominations for the Hovde Award of Excellence

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Nominations are now being accepted for Purdue University's Fredrick L. Hovde Award of Excellence in Educational Services to Rural People of Indiana.

The award recognizes Purdue University staff members who help improve the quality of life for Hoosiers. The winner will receive $800, a plaque and their name on a permanent display in the Agricultural Administration Building on Purdue's West Lafayette campus.

The award is named after Hovde, who served as Purdue's president from 1946 to 1971. During his time at Purdue, enrollment quadrupled and the physical structure of the campus doubled in size. Hovde believed in making higher education within reach of every person, and he demanded excellence in teaching, research and services, according to David Petritz, director of Purdue Extension.

Staff members who have gone beyond the call of duty, excel in leadership and provide service to rural Indiana can be nominated. All members of the staff within the different colleges, divisions and units of the university, which includes regional campuses and Purdue Extension field staff, are eligible.

Nominations may be submitted by an individual or organization serving or interested in the well-being of the people of rural Indiana. A one-page support statement and nomination form are due by Sept. 1 and should be submitted by e-mail to rogerstk@purdue.edu, by mail to the Hovde Award Committee, Purdue University, Ag Administration Building, Room 102, 615 W. State St., West Lafayette, IN 47907-2053; or by fax to Teresa Rogers at (765) 494-5876.

Information is available online. The award will be presented at the December meeting of the Indiana Farm Bureau. For information, contact Petritz at (765) 494-8489.
