Purdue veterinary students to help homeless cats find owners

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Students from Purdue University's School of Veterinary Medicine will join forces with the Tippecanoe County Humane Society to help homeless cats and their new owners from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 1 at 514-A Main St., Lafayette.

Purdue's student chapter of the American Association of Feline Practitioners, in cooperation with the Humane Society, will present Hope for Homeless Cats, a program designed to promote feline health and provide new adoptive homes for a large number of cats.

Students plan to find permanent homes for many of the shelter's adult cats and will perform exams and show new owners how to care for their pets. Veterinary teams will emphasize the importance of good nutrition, parasite control, prevention of infectious diseases (including those that can be transmitted to humans), management of behavioral issues and regular visits to a veterinarian.
