Nominations for 2006 animal sciences alumni award due May 1

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Nominations are now being accepted for Purdue University's Distinguished Animal Sciences Alumni Awards.

"This will be the fifth year for the awards," said Barry Delks, animal sciences coordinator of career services and alumni relations. "The award honors successful alumni dedicated to excellence in the animal science industry."

The Distinguished Animal Science Alumni Award represents excellence in industry, academia, governmental service and other professions affiliated with animal sciences. Delks said honorees have demonstrated leadership and accomplishment in the industry and community.

Any animal science alumni having earned their bachelor's, master's or doctorate from Purdue is eligible for nomination. Awards are given in three categories: the Early Career Award for those who have been working for five to 15 years, the Mid-Career Award for alumni with 16-30 years of experience and the Lifetime Career Award for alumni with more than 30 years of experience. The nominee's category is determined by the number of years since having received their first degree from the department.

Nomination forms, due May 1, are available online. Any person or group affiliated with the Department of Animal Sciences, Purdue or the animal science industry can make a nomination.

Winners will be recognized at an awards program and reception on Sept. 22 and will be introduced at the annual homecoming reunion on Sept. 23. Award recipients' names will be included on the department's outstanding alumni plaque.

"Our alumni have worked hard to advance the animal sciences industry and have made great strides," said Alan Grant, head of the Department of Animal Sciences. "We look forward to applauding their accomplishments."

The completed nomination form plus the nominee's resume and a typed one-page description of the nominee's accomplishments should be mailed to the Distinguished Animal Sciences Alumni Award Committee, Barry Delks, Department of Animal Science, 915 W. State St., Lilly Hall, Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN 47907-2054
