Purdue students to meet with state lawmakers

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Members of Purdue University's student government and other campus organizations will visit the Indiana Statehouse on Tuesday (Feb. 28) in Indianapolis.

The event, called "Purdue Day at the Statehouse," is held annually to give students a chance to represent their college and organizations while showcasing their student leadership on campus.

"This is a great opportunity to cultivate our relationship with our representatives," said Katie Thomas, Purdue Student Government director of state relations. "They are always interested in what we have to say and consider our concerns and ideas while in the legislative session."

Students will gather in the North Atrium at 9 a.m. and will be at the Statehouse until 3 p.m.

"Being right there, literally between the two legislative branches of our state government, gives us an opportunity to voice our opinion to the people who can have the biggest impact on Purdue University," said Brad McKinney, student body vice president.

The group that will represent the university includes Purdue Student Government, Liberal Arts Student Council, Management Ambassadors, School of Agriculture Ambassadors, College of Technology Student Council, Public Relations Student Society of America, Purdue Musical Organizations, Interfraternity Council and the Panhellenic Association.
