Appointments and promotions

— Carmen Castro-Rivera is the Krannert School of Management's director of master's admissions. She will be filling a new position that resulted from the reorganization of the administration of the school's MBA and executive education programs that went into effect Feb. 1. She will be in charge of recruiting full-time students for the two-year MBA program, the two-year master of science in human resource management program and the one-year master of science in industrial administration program. In addition, she will recruit students for the Krannert School's executive education programs, with part-time degree and non-degree options for students who maintain their full-time employment.

Campus activities

— Purdue student registration for summer session and fall semester 2006 begins on March 6. Students should make an appointment with their academic advisers unless the college or school in which they are enrolled provides them with special instructions for registration. Summer session runs from May 15 to Aug. 4. Fall semester runs from Aug. 21 to Dec. 16.

— Jacques Paul Klein, currently the distinguished visiting professor at Princeton University, will present "U.S./U.N. Relationship in the 21st Century: Liberia as a Model" at 7:30 p.m. on March 7 in Stewart Center's Fowler Hall. After serving with distinction in a series of offices in the U.S. State Department, he directed successive U.N. peacekeeping missions in Croatia, Bosnia and Liberia. A reception will follow in Purdue Memorial Union, Room 118. His talk is part of the Sears Lecture Series, which is sponsored by the Department of History.

Faculty and staff honors

— Purdue University Libraries has given five assistant professors Library Scholar Grants ranging from $1,800 to $5,000. The faculty members, from a variety of disciplines, will use the funds to travel to libraries and archives around the world to use collections or information not available at Purdue. The recipients are Darren Dochuck and Michael Ryan from the Department of History; Jeremy Brooke Straughn from the Department of Sociology and Anthropology; Alain Togbe from the Department of Mathematics; and Barbara Wall from the School of Nursing.
