Soil conservation workshop offered by Purdue Extension

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — A soil conservation workshop will take place March 10 in the Community Building at the White County 4-H Fairgrounds in Reynolds, Ind.

"We have a group of folks that work with conservation education and incentive programs coming to speak to farmers and agribusiness representatives about the economics of implementing soil-conserving tillage systems," said Greg Bossaer, Purdue Cooperative Extension Service specialist in White County.

Certified crop advisers can earn three certified education units (CEUs) in the area of soil and water conservation by participating in the free workshop.

The program is as follows:

• 8:30 a.m. — Registration and refreshments.

• 9 a.m. — Barry Fisher, a conservation and tillage Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) specialist, will speak about the financial costs of soil erosion issues.

• 10 a.m. — Allan Miller, Purdue farm management specialist, and Fisher will speak about the economics of conservation tillage choices.

• 11 a.m. — Joe O'Donnell of the Carroll County NRCS, Colette Ziegler Staley of White County Farm Service Agency, Chad Watts of Nature Conservancy and Dave Stimmel of White County Pheasants Forever will discuss soil conservation incentive programs.

• Noon — Adjourn.

The Bi-County Soil Conservation Workshop is sponsored by Purdue Extension and the Soil and Water Conservation Districts in White and Carroll counties.
