WBAA celebrates Mozart’s 250th birthday with live Vienna concert

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — WBAA Public Radio from Purdue University will broadcast a live international concert to honor the 250th birthday of classical music composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart from noon to 4 p.m. Jan. 27 on FM 101.3.

Public radio stations around the world will carry this special concert that will be performed by the Vienna Philharmonic in Salzburg, Austria, where Mozart was born on Jan. 27, 1756.

Riccardo Muti will conduct the program that includes various symphonies, piano concertos and selections from several of Mozart’s operas.

The program’s intermission will be broadcast from a new Mozart Museum that will open on that same day. At the exact time of Mozart’s birth, more than 100 Salzburg churches will ring their bells for seven minutes in his memory.

WBAA Public Radio hosts two stations, AM 920 and 101.3 FM. Classical music, including pieces from Mozart, can be heard on the FM station daily.
