January 11, 2006 Workshop to educate about efficient beef cattle productionWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. The 2006 Beef Cattle Efficiency Workshop, taking place on Jan. 21 at the Clark County 4-H Center in Charlestown, Ind., will offer speakers and topics relevant to today's beef industry. "This is the first time we've offered something like this here," said David Trotter, Purdue University Cooperative Extension Service, Clark County. "I'd like to see large numbers of participants from all over Indiana." The doors open at 8:30 a.m. and participants can register at this time and also visit the commercial exhibits. The program begins at 9:30 a.m. and will end around 4:30 p.m. Speakers and topics for the workshop include: Ed Ballard, University of Illinois: "Why Are We Here? How do We Measure Efficiencies in Beef Cattle Operations?" and "Financial Efficiency Tying it all Together." Richard Huntrods, Purdue-Feldun Research Farm: "Optimizing Cow Efficiency Through Selection." Jerry Rusch, Springmill Vet Clinic: "Reproductive Efficiencies." Jason Tower, Southern Indiana Purdue Agricultural Center: "Grazing Efficiencies." Ron Lemenager, Purdue Department of Animal Sciences: "Nutritional Efficiencies." Huntrods and Tower: "Facility Efficiencies." Those planning to attend may preregister by Friday (Jan. 13) at a cost of $25 per person. Registration after that date and at the door will be $30 per person. This fee will cover materials, facility costs, breaks, lunch and proceedings. The fee for commercial exhibitors wishing to participate is $100 and includes registration, breaks, lunch and proceedings for up to two people from a company.
