November 22, 2005 Purdue Musical Organizations presents 'When Christmas Comes to Town'WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. Members of the community will have a chance to be part of a live audience for a PBS television taping Dec. 9, the first night of Purdue Musical Organizations' annual Christmas Show at Elliott Hall of Music.
PMO will present "When Christmas Comes to Town" in six performances Dec. 9-11. Showtime for the special 50-minute live taping performance Friday (Dec. 9) is 8 p.m. The holiday extravaganza is in its 72nd year at Purdue. "More than 36,000 people come to the Christmas Show every year," said PMO director Brian Breed, who is in his 17th year directing the show. "Our groups delight in offering families a tradition while giving them something new time and again." Featured performers are the Purdue Varsity Glee Club, Purduettes, Purdue Bells, PMO All-Star Alumni, PMO Kids Choir and members of the All-Campus Chorale. Student performers hail from as far away as China and Japan and as nearby as West Lafayette. "One misconception of our performers is that PMO students are music majors," Breed said. "In fact, Purdue doesn't have a school of music. PMO students don't receive academic credit or compensation. They sing because they love it." The Purdue Drum Line, under the direction of Pam Nave, and the Purdue Reamers will be participating in this year's show. Performances are scheduled for Dec. 9 at 8 p.m.; Dec. 10 at noon, 4 p.m. and 8 p.m.; and Dec. 11 at noon and 4 p.m. Except for the Friday night taping, which will be $15 general admission for all ages, tickets are $20 for students age 13 through college; $29 for the general public; $26 for seniors; and $17 for children under 12.
