'This American Life' contributor to speak in Lafayette

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue University's Department of English is sponsoring an Oct. 17 lecture by a regular contributor to Public Radio's "This American Life."

Davy Rothbart, who also is editor of FOUND magazine, will speak at 7:30 p.m. at the Wells Center, 638 North St., Lafayette.

"FOUND magazine has become a pop culture favorite with its mini-stories in the form of 'found stuff,' such as love notes, breakup notes, birthday cards, to-do lists, poetry on napkins and rude messages that have flown off windshields," says Porter Shreve, associate professor of English and director of the Creative Writing program.

Rothbart also is author of the book "Found: The Best Lost, Tossed, and Forgotten Items from Around the World" and a new short story collection, "The Lone Surfer of Montana, Kansas: Stories."

Rothbart also will be accompanied by his musician brother, Peter, as part of the 51-city FOUND Magazine/Davy Rothbart's Lone Surfer tour 2005. Davy will read from his fiction and perform FOUND's greatest finds and Peter will play songs inspired by Found stuff.

Davy Rothbart has been featured on CNN Weekend and the Late Show with David Letterman.
