WBAA program to examine Katrina's impact on Lafayette area

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — A WBAA Town Forum at 7 p.m. Wednesday (Sept. 21) at the West Lafayette Public Library will offer attendees the opportunity to speak to people displaced by Hurricane Katrina and others who have directly or indirectly been involved with relief efforts.

The panel for the hour-long program will include students who have transferred to Purdue in wake of the disaster and Lafayette Journal and Courier reporter Dan Shaw, who spent a week documenting relief efforts in the disaster zone.

"We're hoping a lot of people will come out," said Wayne Pratt, WBAA news director. "A previous hour we spent on-air with Purdue professor Robert Frosch and his parents, who escaped hard-hit St. Bernard Parish just a head of the storm, was fascinating and informative."

Everyone is welcome, but anyone who has been affected by the hurricane is particularly encouraged to attend. Those interested in being guests on the program can contact Pratt at (765) 494-3963. Free parking is available at the parking garage across the street from the library, located at 208 W. Columbia St.

A local Red Cross representative will speak about relief needs and WBAA will take donations to support Red Cross relief efforts.

WBAA can be heard locally at FM 101.3. The AM 920 signal reaches approximately two-thirds of Indiana and can be heard globally via the station's Web site. Local listeners can call in with questions during the program to (765) 496-1999. Listeners outside the local calling area can call toll-free at (866) 922-2101.
