September 8, 2005 Student Union Board invites families for annual eventWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. Families will get a warm welcome on Purdue University's campus on Saturday (Sept. 10) during the Student Union Board's annual Family Day. With a day full of activities, families can enjoy some of the best of Purdue's offerings. "Family Day is a great event to celebrate the spirit and tradition of Purdue," said Kristen Gohlke, Purdue Student Union Board's traditional events director. "Many people will be on campus for the first home football game, and Family Day will show visitors many other great aspects of Purdue." Family Day will begin at 8 a.m. with a pancake breakfast on Memorial Mall. Purdue President Martin C. Jischke also will attend. Faculty and staff will give visitors tours of various schools from 9-11 a.m. Around 3 p.m., following the Purdue vs. Akron football game, a Boilermaker Barbecue will begin. The barbecue will take place in Academy Park behind Purdue Memorial Union until 6:30 p.m. Live music from the Tony Zamora Jazz Ensemble, a petting zoo, a caricature artist, and a performance by the Purdue Juggling and Unicycle Club will entertain families during the barbecue. Tickets for the barbecue can be purchased at the event. The cost is $10.99 for adults and $6.99 for children under 10.
