Autumn Tuesday speaker series kicks off Sept. 13

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Three familiar faces around the Purdue University campus will participate in the Autumn Tuesday speaker series sponsored by the Purdue Alumni Association.

The lectures will be held at Westminster Village, 2741 N. Salisbury St. in West Lafayette. A breakfast buffet will be offered before each of the lectures at 7:30 a.m., and the speakers begin at 8 a.m.

"This year we are presenting speakers from three different areas of the Purdue community: academic, athletics, and safety and security," said J. Todd Coleman, Purdue Alumni Association executive director. "Autumn Tuesdays are a great way for the local community to have breakfast with current Purdue leaders in a relaxed setting."

This speaker series was first established by then-executive director of the alumni association Joe Rudolph and has been running in a similar format for more than 20 years.

The following speakers will give presentations this fall:

• Sept. 13 – Randy Woodson, dean of the College of Agriculture. Woodson became dean in November 2004 and is responsible for overseeing the college, the state chemist's office, Purdue's Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory and other regulatory functions assigned to Purdue by the state. Woodson was formerly the associate dean of agriculture at Purdue and was director of the Office of Agricultural Research Programs at Purdue from July 1998 until he was appointed dean.

• Oct. 25 – Matt Painter, head coach of the Purdue men's basketball team. Painter, a 1994 graduate of the College of Liberal Arts, begins his second season with the Boilermakers, but his first as head coach. He became Purdue's 18th men's basketball coach on April 1. During the 2004-05 season, Painter was associate head coach during Gene Keady's 25th season with the Boilermakers.

• Nov. 8 – Gary Evans, chief of Purdue University Police Department. Evans became chief in 2004. Previously, he was the assistant chief of police for the Valparaiso Police Department and served in the Air Force.

The cost of each presentation is $8 for alumni association members and $10 for non-members. Call (800) 414-1541 or (765) 494-5175 by Sept. 6 to register for one or more sessions in the series. To join the Purdue Alumni Association and receive the member price, log on to web site or call (765) 494-5175.
