Purdue Repertory Dance Company to perform Spring Works 2005

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue Repertory Dance Company will perform its Spring Works 2005 dance concert Friday and Saturday (April 29-30) in Stewart Center's Loeb Playhouse.

The performances, which are sponsored by the Patti and Rusty Rueff Department of Visual and Performing Arts, begin at 8 p.m. each night.

Spring Works 2005 features 10 dance works, all of which were created by faculty and student choreographers. The works will be performed by dancers from the Repertory Dance Company.

"The dancers have spent much of the semester rehearsing and developing the ideas and visions of the choreographers, so the performances should be really interesting," said Carol Cunningham, professor of visual and performing arts. "The concert involves works that explore a range of expression, from more serious issues such as immigration and emotional baggage to more humorous depictions of our daily life."

Cunningham choreographed two of the pieces for the concert, including "Around the Bend" and "Possibilities," and fellow faculty member Sally Wallace contributed "The Point?" Other works choreographed by faculty members include "Residue" and "Via Solis," which were created by Mary Beth Van Dyke and Marisol Ortiz-Amezquita, respectively.

Five of the concert's performances were choreographed by students, including "The Business of Everyday Funk" by Kathleen Hickey, "Stuck" by Christine Carr Jacobs, "On Again Off Again" by Joe Hayes, "shut my get up" by Renee Murray and "mosaIc" by Edward Martin.

Spring Works tickets are $6 for children ages 12 and younger, $10 for students and $12 for the general public. Tickets are available at the Loeb Box Office or by calling (765) 494-3933 or (800) 914-SHOW (7469). Tickets also are available through Ticketmaster at (765) 743-5151 or Ticketmaster.com.
