Residence hall offers first of three 'big movies'

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Owen Hall will kick off a series of three themed movie nights by showing "Field of Dreams" at 9 p.m. Saturday (April 16) in the hall's dining room.

In addition to showing the movie, Matt Willmore, the resident assistant who organized the event, said food, such as cotton candy, popcorn and snow cones, will be served to create a ballpark atmosphere.

The event is free and open to residents of any Purdue residence hall.

Other movies to be shown in the series include "Super-Size Me" and "Jaws" on April 23 and April 30, respectively.

"For 'Super Size Me,' we have planned an event that will be based on healthy eating," said Willmore, a senior in the College of Technology. "We plan to offer free information to students, as well as serve a large assortment of healthy food options so residents can experience how good healthy food can be."

Willmore said an ocean theme is being planned for the showing of "Jaws."

The movies are part of the Grand Alternative, a series of nearly 50 events that include fitness and sports competitions, musical performances, and cultural events to provide students with alcohol- and drug-free activities to celebrate Grand Prix and the end of the spring semester.

The events are funded by Purdue Student Government and supported by Owen Hall.
