Purdue College of Science to honor 10 alumni

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue University's College of Science will honor 10 of its distinguished alumni during an April 15 awards banquet at 1 p.m. in the Elliott Hall of Music.

Receiving awards are:

• Gregory Boebinger, director of the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory and professor of physics at Florida State University and the University of Florida. Boebinger earned a bachelor's degree in physics in 1981.

• Rita Colwell, former director of the National Science Foundation. Colwell is currently chairman of Canon US Life Sciences and distinguished university professor at the University of Maryland and at Johns Hopkins University's Bloomberg School of Public Health. She earned a bachelor's degree in biological sciences in 1956 and a master's degree in 1958.

• Robert Curry, chairman and CEO of Sensys Medical Corp. Curry earned a master's degree in chemistry in 1971 and a doctorate in 1974.

• Woo Chul Kim, a professor of statistics at Seoul National University. Vendley earned a doctorate in statistics in 1979.

• Floyd Loop, retired CEO and chairman of the board of governors at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. Loop earned a bachelor's degree in biological sciences in 1958.

• Patti Mason, department chair and physics and chemistry teacher at Delphi Community High School in Delphi, Ind. Mason earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry in 1968 and a master's degree in 1971.

• Guy Meadows, a professor of physical oceanography and director of the Marine Hydrodynamics Laboratory at the University of Michigan. Meadows earned a doctorate in marine science in 1977.

• Lawrence Stone, president and CEO of Metron Inc. Stone earned a master's degree in mathematics in 1966 and a doctorate in 1967.

• William Vendley, secretary-general of the World Conference of Religions for Peace/International. Vendley earned a bachelor's degree in biological sciences in 1971.

• Curt Worsey, a retired partner at Accenture who is now a technology and management consultant assisting non-profit organizations with business strategy, operations and leadership development programs. Worsey earned a bachelor's degree in computer science in 1980.
