Brave New World of Tele-communications

James S. Kahan, senior executive vice president of SBC Communications Inc., presented the lecture, "Welcome to the Brave New World of Tele- communications," March 24 at Purdue University as part of the TechMakers lecture series sponsored by the Purdue School of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Kahan, who earned a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Purdue in 1969, received a Distinguished Engineering Alumni Award from Purdue last year. While Kahan was on campus, the SBC Foundation, the philanthropic arm of SBC Communications Inc., announced a $150,000 gift to help fund an early career education and research program of the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering. This grant will be used to fund research initiatives, graduate programs and provide technology equipment for the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering.
