Purdue to recognize graduate and professional students

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Graduate and professional students at Purdue University will be recognized for their contributions to universities, the government and their communities during Graduate & Professional Student Appreciation Week April 4-8.

A series of workshops and seminars will take place at Purdue in conjunction with a national celebration sponsored by the National Association of Graduate-Professional Students.

Events include workshops and seminars sponsored by the Graduate School, the Center for Career Opportunities, Information Technology at Purdue, the Center for Instructional Excellence and the Purdue Alumni Association.

In addition, two Graduate Student Excellence Awards will be presented to students in recognition of outstanding scholarship and professionalism. Each winner will receive a plaque, a gift from the Purdue Intercollegiate Athletics and tickets donated by Purdue Theatre.

A complete schedule of events, which are free unless otherwise noted, is as follows:

Monday (April 4):

• 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. — Graduate School/Center for Instructional Excellence/Sponsored Programs/Study Abroad Open House. Young Hall lobby.

• 6-8 p.m. — Graduate Student Get-Together (Bowling and Billiards). Purdue Memorial Union Recreation Center.

Tuesday (April 5)

• 4:30-6 p.m. – Mentoring, Rawls Hall, Room 1011.

• 6-7:30 p.m. — Looking Beyond Academia: Non-Academic Careers Workshop. Dauch Alumni Center.

Wednesday (April 6):

• 10:30 a.m.-noon – Entrepreneurship Workshop. Burton D. Morgan Center, Room 129.

• 1:30 -4:30 p.m. — Adobe Photoshop Workshop. Stanley Coulter Hall, Room 283.

• 3-4 p.m. — Thesis Preparation. Rawls Hall, Room 2079.

• 6-7:30 p.m. – Exploring Academic Careers Workshop. Electrical Engineering, Room 270.

Thursday (April 7): 

• 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. — Macromedia Dreamweaver Workshop. Stanley Coulter Hall, Room 283.

• 1-3 p.m. — Center for Career Opportunities Open House. Stewart Center, Room 194.

Friday (April 8):

• 8-11:30 p.m. — Spring Gala. Evening includes food, dancing and art, Duncan Hall, 619 Ferry St., Lafayette. Tickets $6 per person, $10 per couple. Contact Dana Marcellino, marcelli@purdue.edu for reservations.
