Nominations sought for animal sciences alumni award

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Nominations are now being accepted for the Purdue University Animal Sciences Distinguished Alumni Awards, which will be presented in October during Homecoming weekend.

"This will be the fourth year for the awards," said Barry Delks, animal sciences coordinator of career services and alumni relations. "The purpose of the awards is to recognize successful alumni who have made great contributions to the animal science industry."

Nominees who have earned a bachelor's, master's or doctoral degree will be honored based on the number of years since receiving their first degree from the department. Awards are given in three categories: the Early Career Award for those who have been working for five to 15 years; the Career Award for alumni with 16-30 years of experience; and the Lifetime Career for alumni with more than 30 years of experience.

Award nominations are due by May 1 and can be submitted by anyone. Nominees should have contributed to the animal science industry, academia, governmental service or other endeavors related to animal sciences or an affiliated profession as exemplified by leadership and accomplishments. Nomination forms can be found online.

Winners will receive the award on Friday, Oct. 14, and be recognized on Saturday, Oct. 15, during the animal sciences department reunion. Award recipients' names will be included on the department's outstanding alumni plaque.

"Our alumni have made significant strides in the animal sciences sector, and we look forward to honoring those achievements," said Alan Grant, head of the Department of Animal Sciences.

Completed nominations forms, the nominee's resume and a typed one-page description of the nominee's accomplishments can be mailed to the Animal Sciences Distinguished Alumni Award Committee, Barry Delks, Department of Animal Sciences, 915 W. State St., Lilly Hall, Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN 47907-2054.
