March 8, 2005 Purdue's Black Cultural Center presents the Dallas Black Dance TheatreWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. The Dallas Black Dance Theatre will perform March 22 in Stewart Center's Loeb Playhouse as part of the Purdue Black Cultural Center's 2005 Cultural Arts Series.
"The Dallas Black Dance Theatre is a modern dance company that has electrified audiences all over the world," said BCC director Renee Thomas. "We're proud to be able to bring such a prestigious group to perform at Purdue." The 7 p.m. performance, which is free and open to the public, will include a mixed repertoire of modern, jazz, African and spiritual works. The group also will conduct a master class that is open to the public at 2 p.m. March 22 at the Black Cultural Center. Members of the company will present a class on the Horton technique as well as modern and jazz movement. Founded in 1976 by Ann Williams, the company has studied, trained and performed with Alvin Ailey, Elisa Monte, David Parsons, Donald Byrd, Donald McKayle, Jessica Lang, Alonzo King, Christopher Huggins, Cleo Parker Robinson, Hope Clarke and others. Williams directed the Dallas Black Dance Theatre's growth from a community-based and a semi-professional organization to a full professional dance company with 12 dancers. The company tours nationally and internationally.
