February 21, 2005 'Fiddler on the Roof' to Perform at PurdueWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. The Broadway musical "Fiddler on the Roof" will take the stage at 4 p.m. Sunday (Feb. 27) in Purdue University's Elliott Hall of Music. Presented by Purdue Convocations, "Fiddler on the Roof" is based on the stories of Sholom Aleichem. The score, written by composer Jerry Bock and lyricist Sheldon Harnick, includes the hits "Sunrise, Sunset," "Matchmaker, Matchmaker" and "If I were a Rich Man." The musical is celebrating the 40th anniversary of it 1964 New York opening. Staged in 1905, the lead character, Tevye, experiences many of the joys and trials faced by ordinary people. Tevye is a milkman in the small village of Anatevka, where there are traditions for everything, including how eat, dress, pray and marry. Tevye takes the audience through a journey of love, weddings, devotion and forgiveness, pausing often for dialogue with himself and with God. Tickets for "Fiddler on the Roof" range in price from $21 to $30 for students and children and $30 to $44 for general public.
