February 4, 2005 Video series announced for spring semesterWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. The Committee on Peace Studies at Purdue University is sponsoring a video series entitled Struggles for Freedom. The series, which takes place on Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m., is free and open to the public. The schedule for the spring semester includes: Feb. 9. Beering Hall of Liberal Arts and Education, Room 1260. "Paul Robeson: Here I Stand." Robeson was an athlete, singer and scholar who fought for rights of working people, minorities and people living under systems of colonialism. Feb. 23. Beering Hall of Liberal Arts and Education, Room 2280. "Amandla: A Revolution in Four-Part Harmony." This film is about the anti-apartheid movement in South Africa and the movement's music, particularly the freedom songs. March 23. To be announced. The Committee on Peace Studies oversees the peace studies minor, which has been offered by the Department of Political Science since 2001, said Harry Targ, professor of political science and committee director. The committee, founded in 1997, organizes video series, speakers and conferences at Purdue on topics relevant to peace studies.
