Football, men's basketball ticket prices to increase for 2005-06

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue University's Board of Trustees today (Saturday, Dec. 18) approved new ticket prices for football and men's basketball.

Under the plan approved by trustees, football single-game and season ticket prices will increase by $1 per game. For men's basketball, only single-game ticket prices will increase by $1 per game.

"We would like to hold the line on all prices every year, but our costs to operate an 18-sport program continue to increase," said Morgan Burke, director of intercollegiate athletics. "We have attempted to maintain a variety of ticket options so that coming to our football and basketball games can continue to be a great entertainment value for all of our fans."

Mini-season ticket packages for football and men's basketball will continue to be offered, giving fans a 6 percent discount over single-game tickets. For men's basketball, $10 game-day prices will continue to be offered.

The Division of Intercollegiate Athletics is self-supporting and receives no state, university or tuition funds.

Football ticket prices, which take effect in the fall, are:

• Season/general public – $204, an increase of $6.

• Season/faculty and staff – $163, up $5.

• Season/students – $84, a $6 increase.

• Season/south end zone – $96, up $6.

Single-game tickets will increase to $38 from $37 for the public and faculty and staff. Student single-game prices will rise from $18 to $19.

Additionally, premium single-game prices will be charged for Big Ten games. For the general public and faculty and staff, the premium price will be $43, up from $42. For students, the premium price will be $22, up from $21.

For men's basketball, single-game tickets for the upper arena will be $18, up from $17. Lower-arena tickets will be $23, up from $22. Season ticket prices will remain the same.

The best value for fans is the season ticket option, Burke said, offering the following comparisons: For men's basketball, an upper-arena general public season ticket will cost $272 rather than $320 on a single-game basis; while a public season ticket for football will be $204 rather than $253 for six single-game tickets.

Trustees also approved continuation of the policy that allows Purdue graduate students to pay the same price as undergraduate students.
