Police seek information on attempted robbery

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue University police are seeking information about an incident in which a student reported he was injured while being robbed at knifepoint.

A 19-year-old male student told police that a man dressed in dark clothing and wearing a ski mask demanded the student's wallet about 9:30 p.m. Thursday (Dec. 2). The student was headed east in the 1200 block of Nimitz Drive when the incident allegedly occurred.

The student said that during a scuffle, his left hand was cut by the robber, who then dropped the knife and ran away when the student fought back, said Steven R. Dietrich, deputy chief.

The student neither contacted police about the incident nor sought medical attention until Tuesday (Dec. 7), Dietrich said.

The suspect was described as about six feet tall, weighing between 190 and 210 pounds. He was wearing dark blue jeans, a dark-colored jacket and ski mask.

Anyone with information about the incident should contact Purdue police at (765) 494-8221.
