Police investigate burglary of team lockers, truck theft

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue University police are seeking information about a break-in at the Intercollegiate Athletic Facility this weekend that led to the theft of a truck, car keys, clothing, cash and credit cards from members of the Boilermaker football team.

The gray and black Ford pickup truck, the keys for which had been in one of the lockers, was recovered today (Monday, Nov. 1) near Ind. 25 and Tippecanoe County Road 300 North.

Purdue police were called about 6:30 p.m. Saturday (Oct. 30) after the players returned from their game against Northwestern University and found their lockers had been gone through, said Deputy Chief Steven Dietrich. Dietrich said the theft occurred sometime after team left campus at 2 p.m. Friday (Oct. 29). Police found no evidence of forced entry.

Additional items may be reported missing after more players have a chance to check their lockers, Dietrich said.

Anyone with information about the break-in and theft should contact the Purdue police at (765) 494-8221.
