October 29, 2004 Change allows Purdue job applicants to apply for specific positionWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. Beginning Monday (Nov. 1), Purdue University will implement a change to its employment process that will allow external applicants to apply for specific jobs. "The change, which does not alter application procedures for internal candidates, is intended to help the university achieve its strategic goals to hire and retain high-quality and diverse faculty and staff," said Deborah L. Turner, assistant director for employment and compensation in Human Resource Services. Previously, an applicant submitted a resume for general consideration instead of applying for a specific position. Under the new process, hiring supervisors will receive the names of all applicants internal and external who meet the minimum qualifications listed in the job description for a position. "This will enable hiring supervisors to review a larger number of resumes, thereby giving them increased opportunity to consider all qualified applicants," Turner said. Human Resource Services staff will be available to help supervisors review candidates' qualifications. Information on submitting a resume, completing a referral request and viewing open positions is available on Purdue's employment Web site.
