October 21, 2004 Boiler Volunteer Network notes national day of doing goodWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. Purdue University's Boiler Volunteer Network is looking for community members to help with projects at Columbian Park Zoo and Picket Park on Oct. 30 as part of national Make a Difference Day. "This is a day when neighbors help neighbors in projects to make their community a better place to live," said Kimberly Martin, assistant dean of students and director of the Boiler Volunteer Network. "It's also a great way to get to know your neighbors or to get reacquainted." In the Picket Park path project, volunteers will help extend the jogging path around McCormick Road. At the zoo, they will help take down the Boo at the Zoo exhibit, a children's Halloween adventure. The event is open to the public, but volunteers must sign up before Oct. 27 by calling (765) 496-2450. Participants should expect to work between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. and will receive breakfast, transportation and a T-shirt. The Boiler Volunteer Network provides a volunteer clearinghouse on campus to connect Purdue students, faculty, staff and retirees with community service and campus volunteer opportunities.
