October 20, 2004 Four garner 2004 Consumer and Family Science awardsWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Indiana Extension Educators Association (IEEA) honored four Purdue University Extension educators for consumer and family sciences on Tuesday (Oct. 19) during the annual Purdue Extension conference. Pam Mihankhah, Purdue Extension educator in Henry County, received the IEEA Innovator Award for her development of the six-session PACT Parenting Program. Mihankhah's program was designed to help parents understand what being a responsible parent entails and to teach essential parenting skills. She has collaborated with local agencies in Henry, Randolph and Rush counties including county court, Division of Family and Children, domestic violence, churches, mental health facilities, law enforcement, community corrections, Step Ahead, child care providers and Head Start. Christina Ferroli, Purdue Extension educator in Marion County, received the IEEA Junior Award for providing training for child care providers in Marion County for the past five years. In response to a need for training in safe food handling, she served on a program development and review team under the leadership and guidance of Bill Evers, state foods and nutrition specialist. As a result, she presented the Childcare and Food Safety Training program to the Indiana Association for the Education of Young Children conference and for recertification for Nutrition Inc., a child and adult care food program. Beth Green, Purdue Extension educator in Noble County, was honored with the IEEA Senior Award for her development of the "World of Working Women" newsletter. For the past 10 years, Green has provided free copies of the newsletter to factories, offices and service agencies throughout Noble County. This newsletter provides women with research-based information with the intent of helping them improve their career skills. Leanna Richardson, Purdue Extension educator in Floyd County, received the IEEA Career Award for her 32 years of service and outstanding work in Purdue Extension. Richardson developed programs to assist the area forestry and natural resource department in providing education to help improve the lives of many low-income families in southern Indiana.
