October 18, 2004 Economist will discuss world population during Purdue seminarWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - A seminar at Purdue University on Thursday (Oct. 21) will focus on the gulf between global haves and have-nots. The seminar, titled "What is Happening to the Population Bomb?" will begin at 3 p.m. in the second-floor auditorium in Pfendler Hall. The event is free and open to the public. Bill Butz, president and CEO of the Population Reference Bureau in Washington D.C., will present the seminar. He will review the developments that have taken place in world population in the last decade and also will identify issues concerning what he calls the "demographic divide," which he believes still exists between developed and less developed nations. Butz became president of the Population Reference Bureau (PRB) in October 2003. Since its founding 75 years ago, PRB has become the leading organization providing assessments of U.S. and international population, health and environmental trends and their implications.
