September 10, 2004 Deadline approaches for Homecoming parade applicationsWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. The theme for this year's Boilermaker Night Train Homecoming Parade is Purdue Mascots Around the World, and students have until 4:30 p.m. on Friday (Sept. 24) to submit an application to participate. Entries can be a lighted float on a flatbed pulled by a truck, vehicles or a walking group. Floats should resemble a specific place in the world and should include a Purdue mascot. "This theme will challenge students to use their knowledge of world cultures and places, and apply their creativity and their university spirit," said Heather Owen, Purdue Student Union Board director. "We expect a multicultural display that will be exciting to behold but that has the common thread of black and gold." Rules and applications for participation in the 2004 Boilermaker Night Train Homecoming Parade are available online. Information about other activities sponsored by the Purdue Student Union Board is available online. Examples of acceptable floats include Rowdy on the Great Wall of China, Purdue Pete at Carnival in Brazil or the Boilermaker Express Train in Germany during Oktoberfest. Each entry application should be accompanied by a drawing of the planned float in order to avoid duplication. The parade will start at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 15, at Stadium Drive and Russell Street and end at Slayter Hill. The parade will travel south down Russell Drive and take a right on First Street, where it will continue to MacArthur Drive and take another right. The parade will then make its way up MacArthur Drive to Third Street, where it will take a right and head up to North Intramural Drive. There it will take a left and proceed to Slayter Hill. A fireworks display will cap off the evening at Slayter Hill. Homecoming information and updates are available online. The Web site will be updated as plans for Homecoming events are finalized.
