September 2, 2004 Purdue Black Cultural Center sponsors Friends and Family DayWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. Salsa lessons and an Afro-Latin trivia contest, conducted in a format similar to the television show Jeopardy, are some of the highlights of the Purdue University Black Cultural Center's fourth annual Friends and Family Day that will take place from 3-5 p.m. Sept. 11 in the center's parking lot. The public is invited to the event that kicks off the Black Cultural Center's semester-long focus on the Afro-Latin culture and the diaspora. In addition to the salsa and trivia contests, there will be poetry readings, storytelling, and a children's activity and game room. Prizes will be awarded and refreshments will be served. "The event is being organized to provide Purdue students, faculty and staff, along with the Lafayette area community, an occasion to come together for a day of fun, food and a opportunity to learn about other cultures," said Bill Caise, Friends and Family Day chairperson. "Everyone is welcome." Caise said he hopes that those attending will not only enjoy the day's events but also will take advantage of the many programs and opportunities that the Black Cultural Center has to offer throughout the academic year. The Black Cultural Center was established in 1969. More information about the Black Cultural Center and its upcoming events is available online.
